Ad Hoc working group

The 36th meeting of Ad Hoc working group on development of a draft convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea at the level of deputy foreign ministers started at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan. The meeting is attended by delegations from the five littoral states - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.According to the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the agenda of the meeting includes issues relating to preparations for the next summit of the heads of  Caspian states, as well as discussion of the draft Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea and other issues.Speaking at the meeting, the heads of delegations stressed the importance of the negotiation process on defining the legal foundations of human activities on the Caspian Sea. At the same time, it is above all about the development of the legal status of the Caspian Sea.There was noted that by now the Caspian states have already signed five-sided important documents such as the Framework Convention on Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea and the Agreement on Cooperation in the Security Sphere.The meeting participants expressed confidence that discussions of the Caspian issues will be continued in the atmosphere of mutual understanding, openness and constructiveness in order to develop mutually acceptable solutions.
